Out of the sea a strange presence, into a mansion the start of a catastrophe, onto an island of raccoons... a confusion of fiction & reality this month...
So disappointed my copy of Beware of Pity didn't arrive in time for me to read it for book club! I suspect it's been lost in the post somewhere... Equally, I'm sad I haven't managed to get my hands on a copy of Lila for our buddy read this month. I'm hoping I will have more luck when I visit Canada soon and I can also get myself a copy of Jack to complete the collection.
Really intrigued by Becoming Kin, sounds like a really thought-provoking read. Perhaps one I will read at some point alongside the Hammad.
I'm also just at the beginning of the Little, Big slow read. Hope you're enjoying it as much as I am! I think we're in for a wonderful ride with this one.
Oh no hopefully Beware of Pity shows up soon - it's definitely one that draws out a strong reaction. If/when you do get to Lila, I'd be really curious to see how you get on with it! I like how markedly different it is from Gilead & Home, and I'm really looking forward to finishing off the series with Jack. I've been borrowing my copies from a library and although I love the feel of them, I do wonder if I shouldn't just go out and get myself those gorgeous painting editions.
I just read the 2nd day's worth of Little, Big and have completely fallen into its spell! I'm trying to balance my note-taking with reading 'cause I sense I just wanna gobble it all up lol
Interesting to hear that Lila was markedly different from Gilead and Home as those two resemble each other so much! I did wonder if all four books were going to circle around the same time period, but it sounds like Lila is a departure from that. I'll let you know how I get on with it when I get to it!
I'm also done with the 2nd day's reading and echo your feelings! I'm actually really glad we're doing it as a slow read as it gives us more time to pause on all the beautiful prose and really dig into all its layers. Plus, the reading experience is made so much better with Jess's commentary throughout!
